Bart & Whitney (engagements)

Last Saturday evening I met with Bart and Whitney for their engagement session in New Albany.  To my surprise they showed up as early as I did.  I knew these were great people :)  The location we used had changed a lot since I had last seen it and my usual areas of use were covered in weeds so we went explored and found a few new areas I hadn't used yet.
I love props!  Small, big, plain or colorful I love them!  They can literally make a session.  Bart and Whitney's relationship started over his Jeep so they wanted to bring it along and include it in their session.  I had never used a vehicle for an engagement session so I wasn't exactly sure how to pull it off until I got there in person.  I love how it turned out!  Bart and Whitney are getting married in the next few days in Jamaica so I won't be doing their wedding.  I will however be doing their reception next month so stayed tuned for their reception post.

At this point in the blog I usually post a link to the album on Facebook so you can see it in it's entirety.  Unfortunately when I made the switch to a business page from a normal user page I lost a few functions.  You guessed it...one of those functions was the ability to share an outside link to the page.  The majority of my readers do not have a Facebook page so I'll try my best to include as many images as possible.

Now onto the pictures!

She's a Beatles fan :)  When we first met she asked where I came up with Jude's name then nonchalantly added she too was a Beatles fan.  When I saw her tattoo I just had to in some way incorporate it.  If you can't see it after clicking to see the full image it says, "There will be an answer let it be"

The line that started it all :)

Enrique & Vasty (engagement)

I met with Enrique and Vasthy this past Saturday afternoon.  You may recognize them from a maternity session I did with them last year.  It was such a pleasure to meet with them and get to know them better.  They're a fun, sweet couple totally in love :)  The shoot took place in downtown Louisville.  To view the entire album on Facebook cut and paste the link below into your address bar.

princess & the pea

For those of you that know me you're aware that I'm not a sleeper and I'm always thinking, dreaming and sketching my ideas so I don't miss a single detail.  The idea for this shoot came in the form of the words only then I ran with it.  When I get ideas, especially for concept shoots I usually have a person in mind.  I see them and their personality in that session.  This session was meant for one special little girl.  I ran the idea by her Mom who was thrilled to have her little girl be a model for Foxtree.  In the future you'll see the rundown of the props in a detailed propology post but for now I'll just show the goods.  The day started out as a perfect overcast day which had me very excited.  I set up the teepee, bed, "mattresses" and the stool with the pea details on top.  We place little Miss Princess Pea and the sun decides it loves my set up and wants to light up that whole area.  I love the sun during sessions but not so much the bright noon day sun.  I love the warm glow of the evening sun especially for sessions like this.  It didn't work out but overall I'm still pleased with the concept session.  Thank you so much to Audrey's Mommy for being so trusting and just going with the flow :)  I know you read the blog so I'll throw in my true feelings for you to find.  You're an awesome lady inside and out!  I had a great time with you and your girls.  Ok onto the pictures!  If you'd like to view the full Facebook album, (that I think might still grow some) cut and paste the following link into your address bar.

Propology: Senior session on a budget

The very beginning of this month I had a Senior session with Victoria.  It was well planned out but their creative juices joining with mine took it even further than I had originally imagined.  This just may be one of my favorite sessions.
Photography is way more than camera, lenses, creativity, a computer and editing software.  Way more.  That's actually the reason I decided I'd start making propology posts.  Unless you're a photographer I don't know if you truly understand how much time and money goes into making a photo session what it is.  For quite some time now I've had these visions of vintage prop heaven.  Everything is so perfectly clear.  The problem you might ask?  I don't have the props.  I can't find them.  If I find them they're whoa expensive!  One afternoon I was sitting at my friend/sister in law's house when one of the kids brought out a vintage typewriter.  When I get a great idea, get super excited or see something I love that is either 1. clothes, 2. props, 3. the perfect picture I let out this little shriek.  Not seeing what I was excited about she looked a little scared until I explained.  Let's face it I get distracted too easy so what I'm shrieking about is often unknown.  I have 100 different things floating around my mind and have little ADD moments where I hop from one to the other.  I often interrupt myself.  Seriously lol!  Getting back on track.  I explained that was one of the vintage items I had been looking for but couldn't find.  She agreed to let me use it when the time came.  Now the job was finding and planning the other props that would accompany this little treasure.  In addition to finding the other props, an important piece is, who I will use the prop with.  You can't just throw any ole prop with someone.  It might completely clash with who they are or their interests.  I could see the prop with Victoria but just in case, ran my ideas by her to see what she thought of my vision.  She loved it so it was a go.  Below is my vision born into a picture.

List of props

1. Journals - $0 personal journals at my house

2. Quilt- $0 When my Great Grampa passed away the family started the daunting task of going through the personal effects of both my Grampa and what he had put away following the passing of his wife, my Great Gramma.  What we found were mounds and mounds of quilts my Gramma had made.  Gramma passed away when I was 5 so I don't have a lot of memories.  The one that stands out the most is watching her hand quilt during our visits.  I was given this quilt that Gramma made.

3. Suitcase- $3 I've spent many months searching flea markets and the local Goodwills for a certain kind of suitcase.  I finally found one that I liked enough to get.

4. Wire basket- $8 To be honest I don't remember exactly how much I bought this basket for but I know it was under $10.  I purchased it many months back, during one of those super sales at Hobby Lobby where they put a variety of their products in a clearance section marked 60-80% off.

5. Vintage typewriter- $0 Read above story

Grand total spent on props for this session: $11

I'm super pleased with the props I had for this session and that red number.  It's not easy to pull off a propped out session on such a small budget.  This prop on a budget thing has become an addiction.  Stay tuned for future propology posts.  If all goes as planned there will be an amazing, propped out session this Sat.  Trust me, you do not want to miss the pictures or post that will follow.  Need a teaser?  It's entitled "The Big Bear Hunt".  :)

Take care,
Amber

Jude

My family has been requesting new pictures of Jude so I started working on ideas for a mini session with him.  After much bribing with Reeses mini cups he agreed to leave the hat on and take pictures for Mommy.  Of course think he's just adorable and have to show him off :)  To view the full album on Facebook, which is slowly growing as I edit, cut and paste the below link into your address bar.  I have to edit other's shoots first so his will grow over time.

V is for Vivian (newborn)

Little Vivian's family got in contact with me after viewing photos of a mutual friend's (Adrienne of Adrienne & Co. here in Jeffersonville) daughter.  I met with them in Greenville this past Saturday.  At 18 days old Vivian was just outside of that perfect newborn photography age of 1-10 days old but once she got comfortable it was easy sailing.  She's such a cutie and it was a great pleasure to meet her family.  They have a family session at the beginning of September so this isn't the last you'll be seeing of them.  Below is the link to the full facebook album.  Cut and paste it into your address bar.
